We’re pleased to have been able to support the BBC’s latest ‘DIY SOS’ television show to help the Flemen family in Freckleton in Lancashire.
The show tells the story of 16-year old Dan, a sociable and active teenager who started to experience flu-like symptoms and was eventually diagnosed with a brain tumour.
He underwent life-saving emergency surgery but now has complex disabilities which mean that he needs specialist equipment and round the clock care.
The family’s home couldn’t accommodate the equipment and care Dan now needs, so he had to remain in hospital in Manchester, 50 miles away, for nearly three years.
The TV show issued a callout for help from suppliers, tradespeople and volunteers to transform the family’s home so that Dan could return home.
We’re pleased to have made a small contribution by donating 10mm toughened clear glass to our customer, Lakeland Verandas, who took part in the build.
The glass we supplied was used for the decking balustrade and ramp, which now allow Dan to safely access and enjoy the outdoor space alongside his family.
Mike Winter, the Business Development & Account Manager for our processed glass range said:
“We’re proud to have supported Lakeland Verandas and the BBC team in delivering such an important project and helping Dan to return home to his family.”
