Toughened glass specialist TuffX recently supplied its quality safety glass, in a variety of bespoke sizes, towards the construction of a new apartment block in High Wycombe.

TuffX’s customer had been briefed to design and install an internal glass and stainless steel balustrade for the communal staircase of the building, but as is often the case, time was tight. The handover date was due and top-end safety glass was needed with a quick lead-time to complete the project.

TuffX supplied 10mm toughened glass with clear, dubbed corners. Varying glass sizes were required to accommodate the bespoke nature of the project, with differing lengths needed to fit multiple staircases and landing spaces. So TuffX’s CAD team worked closely with the customers throughout the process to ensure each panel fitted correctly.

The customer fabricated a bespoke stainless steel post and rail balustrade with a double handrail. For the penthouse apartment, a combination of stainless steel handrail and fascia fixed channel system was fitted. The installation of each apartment block took four-and-a-half days to complete.

The result is a stunning contemporary glass stairwell that lets the light flood through. It is a bright and airy, pleasant and safe communal space for residents that can stand up to the heavy usage of a high-traffic area, and is practical, functional and easy to maintain and clean.
