THE BRIEF

Blenheim Palace commissioned the replacement and upgrade of their existing pool conservatory, with the intention of retaining the original main portal frame while introducing a modern, high-performance aluminium structure. The new installation was designed as a lean-to configuration, incorporating an Ultraframe Classic Roof system finished with aluminium cappings in the specified Moorland Green colour.

TuffX Ambi-Blue Roof

To enhance thermal efficiency and reduce maintenance requirements, the roof was glazed with the TuffX Ambi-Blue self-cleaning, low-E argon-filled glass, which provides both solar control and aesthetic clarity.

The roofline was completed with matching guttering and downpipes, also in Moorland Green, ensuring a cohesive and sympathetic appearance in keeping with the surrounding architecture.

TuffX Ambi-Neutral Vertical Panels

For the vertical frames, SMARTS Aluminium Alitherm 400 windows were installed alongside Visofold 1000 French doors, all powder-coated to match the Moorland Green finish of the roof components.

The vertical frame glazing utilised TuffX Ambi-Neutral self-cleaning, low-E argon glass, selected to deliver balanced light transmission and energy performance while maintaining visual harmony with the roof glazing.

As part of the wider scope of works, a small section of flat roofing was constructed across the width of the structure and finished with a Sarnafil membrane to provide long-term durability and weather protection. Throughout the project, particular care was taken to protect the tiled surfaces surrounding the swimming pool. These areas were fully boarded and safeguarded to prevent damage during construction activities, ensuring the pool environment remained clean, secure and undisturbed.

THE RESULTS

The upgraded conservatory provides Blenheim Palace with a significantly enhanced poolside environment that combines modern performance with a refined aesthetic suited to the estate’s historic setting.

The improved thermal efficiency, reduced maintenance requirements and high-quality aluminium system ensure long-term durability, while the TuffX self-cleaning Ambience glazing and cohesive colour palette contribute to a bright, comfortable and visually unified space.

This investment not only improves the functionality and resilience of the pool enclosure but also elevates the overall visitor experience by creating a more inviting and environmentally controlled leisure area.
